Preserving Language, Exploring Culture, Expanding Horizons!
NEWL / Prototype AP Russian Language Exam
The NEWL (National Examinations in World Languages) Russian Exam, formerly known as the Prototype AP Russian Language and Culture Exam, is a nationally recognized language proficiency assessment for high school students.
Administered by American Councils for International Education and endorsed by the College Board, it evaluates students’ Russian language proficiency and can help them qualify for college language placement or credit, depending on university policies. It is suitable for both heritage speakers and students learning Russian as a foreign language.
The exam assesses four essential language skills:
- Reading: Understanding authentic Russian texts.
- Listening: Comprehending conversations and spoken information.
- Writing: Expressing ideas clearly in written Russian.
- Speaking: Communicating confidently in everyday and academic situations.
Exam Preparation at the Russian School of Dallas
Our Saturday preparation program helps high school students strengthen all four language skills through targeted exercises, authentic materials, speaking practice, writing assignments, and practice exams.
Our goal is to help students demonstrate their Russian proficiency, achieve strong exam results, and explore opportunities for college placement and credit.
